Britain to give aid to Syrian Opposition Groups… what will be the consequence?
Britain is to give humanitarian aid to the Free Syrian Army more than tripling its humanitarian and other non-lethal aid to international opposition and human rights groups.
The government has argued that the Syrian population could not wait indefinitely for a diplomatic solution to the conflict. The £5m in aid will go to recipients inside Syria rather than the exile groups that the UK has funded until now.
This shift of emphasis is expected to unite opposition groups against the Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Will we see a united front to the revolution in Syria with the Free Syrian Army becoming the dominant political group to who the world will interact with?
